Lix Da Lion

The Artist

Lindile Joshua Mkhonwana-Gantsu also known as Lix Da Lion was born in George, Western Cape, on the nineteenth of March 1990. He moved to Mossel Bay in 1998 to live with his mother who was there for work purposes. 2005 is the year he gained interest in rap music, specifically local vernacular rap music. He was a very shy kid in school and started jotting rap verses trying to learn how to write so he could break out of his bubble of being a nerdy kid, three years later he recorded his first songs with friends and was surprised by the good feedback I received. After that year he stopped recording at all and decided to listen more in order to learn. A few years later he picked up the microphone but this time he had grown immensely from the young writer that he used to be… 2014 was the year that his brother (cousin) Ayanda Gantsu discovered his raw talent of making music.

Album Available Now!

On this debut album by Lix Da Lion titled “Love and War” we have songs such as black man where he speak about the suffering of the African people, under the system that they thought was going to provide enough opportunities for them to make a decent living. It is not a politically driven song but him addressing what relatively/extremely poor Africans go through every day. Thus I felt the message had to be deep yet easy to understand.
